Hello Jazz people,

Last Saturday 17th march we spent a great musical moment with bassist Linley Marthe.

Great moment of sharing,  Great moment of music and a great Jazz Moment

We had a quite good and receptive  audience  too and here I’d like to thank Christophe Bertin again  who joined in with his astounding,  precise  and  effective drumming.

I think that the climax of the evening was that incredible magic that just happened when Sebastian began singing the traditional sega tunes with Linley at the piano

Audacieux le projet de quintette accueilli toutes portes ouvertes à Port Chambly depuis mai 2011. Il évoque l’expression musicale d’une épatante famille. Le pianiste Dean Nookadu, responsable et leader du groupe, a formulé des propositions pour un jeu collectif. Il y a une grande interaction entre les musiciens et aussi une recherche de la phrase musicale absolue (le moment magique qui émeut le public). Le jeu est assez libre. Les “performers” tiennent compte de toutes les formes de musiques actuelles. Pour assister à l’improvisation et la création sur scène, il faut aller à Chambly et constater l’efficacité du quintette.
Les samedis soirs à Port Chambly sur la place du village, le Dean Nookadu Jazz Quintet. Ce sont des Mauriciens connus : Dean Nookadu (piano), Denis Serret (basse), Gérart Ravat (batterie), Nel Bucktowar (saxophone) et Philippe Thomas (trompette). La formation existe depuis 2010 mais évolue régulièrement à Port Chambly. Dean Nookadu nous parle de l’esthétique musicale vers laquelle son quintette est orienté : création, développements rythmiques, mélodie, improvisation, beaucoup de virtuosité bien sûr, mais surtout ce moment magique qui consiste en une recherche de la phrase absolue, de la beauté de la note. “Le projet de quintette a été accueilli de manière favorable par le public mauricien… il y a deux cuivres en harmonie, ça apporte une couleur. Le quintette apporte une rondeur dans l’ensemble avec des possibilités incroyables pour ce qui est des idées…”, déclare Dean Nookadu. Il insiste, par ailleurs, sur cette recherche totale et constante au niveau de l’expression musicale. De formation classique, il dit que le classique c’est la connaissance de l’instrument au niveau du jeu et aussi la connaissance du répertoire existant pour tel instrument. Je m’appuie sur cette base, ajoute le musicien. Dans le classique, poursuit Dean Nookadu, on respecte les notes mais il y a aussi une grande ouverture au niveau du phrasé…  on devient le véhicule des idées musicales d’un compositeur, dans l’interprétation. En jazz, nous développons le thème mais on est aussi dans une recherche constante. “On est libre dans l’interprétation, on est dans l’interaction… on déplace certaines choses… on prend des éléments de toutes les formes actuelles…”, affirme le pianiste de jazz. Il insiste aussi sur le fait qu’il faut être en contact avec le son, être capable d’entendre en avance ce que l’on veut jouer et le produire. Le Jazz Quintet est un groupe homogène. Les musiciens jouent à l’unisson. Grâce à cet état de concentration, l’interaction entre musiciens est possible : des variations se mettent en place, on prend un thème et on le développe, quelqu’un peut faire une superbe phrase qui est développée avec énergie jusqu’à un point culminant. Dès qu’on improvise, on propose une idée, un air original, une mélodie, les variations s’enchaînent. Dean nous dit qu’il faut aussi chanter chaque note, se diluer en quelque sorte dans le jeu et c’est là que le quintette s’impose et la couleur se développe. Pour ce qui est de l’écoute mutuelle, il nous dit que sa formation joue en fonction de l’acoustique du son qui lui parvient. La réaction du public est très importante. Dans une salle de concert, il y a une ambiance intime, la qualité du son est différente. On est parfois en communion avec le public. Sur une scène ouverte, la magie s’opère quand il y a interaction avec le public. La magie sur scène, nous dit Dean, c’est surtout ce moment musical où le public se sent touché par la beauté de la phrase, de la note, du développement musical. Cela relève du ressenti.

Sebastien Margeot with our Jazz Quintet at Port Chambly

Hi Folks of the Jazz World,

We had a tremendous great  musical moment with Sebastien Margeot  last saturday at Port Chambly Village.

Sebastien Margeot , a mauritian guitarist and vocalist is back after  his music studies in France . He  completed his Classical Guitar Studies  before pursuing jazz studies at the Centres des Musiques Didier Lockwood .

 

Sebastien Margeot is a name that you will soon come across in a near future.He has a fantastic technique and his musical ideas are well presented and developed during his improvisations. Something great is happening at Port Chambly .Stay in tuned .

Upcoming Concerts and a few words …

Hello everyone,

This year has been a very busy year  musically for us. We have performed at the most important  corporate events in Mauritius as you may find out while  reading this blog. 

 

In january 2012, you can meet us at the Saturday concerts at Port Chambly Village, Baie du Tombeau. We may be accompanying a guest artist and playing in a completely different style   ranging from pop rock to soul and funk . The most important thing is to groove any music …and to groove it naturally ,,, whatever the style  and playing Jazz  makes this possible.

2012 should be a great year for us as we have been invited to participate in at least 3 international Jazz festivals. An audio  and video project is also in preparation  and more details will be made available on this page soon. Please stay in tuned,

You can  meet us this friday 3oth december for our last performances in 2011. Please note that Denis Serret, our bass player is currently playing in Dubai and our friend Kersley Pythambar will be our bass player on the 30th december live appearances .

We are now a Jazz Collective and we perform in various combinations ranging from the standard Jazz Trio  and  the Quartet/Quintet combos  to  a more elaborated orchestral ensemble with the World Jazz Orkestra which features a string section, northern and southern Indian percussions and other asian instruments such as the Erhu or chinese two strings violin.

Hello Every One,

We had a great time playing at the  ” reveal ” of  MCB new logo last 30th october at St Jean, Quatre Bornes.  Fantastic show and a great sound from Impact Production. These guys are the best in Mauritius. No doubt about that.  So a special thank you note  to our friend  Doudou, for his skill  to master the sound for us .

You can meet us around at Port Chambly the 12th and the 26th november for our regular jazz concerts there.
