Upcoming Concert with Tenor Jean Michel Ringadoo

Hello

Tenor singer, Jean Michel Ringadoo is actively preparing his Operatic Arias  concert.  The rehearsals are working out well and I can say that this will be an important not-to-be-missed event. We have had a concert of Italian songs together recently  sharing an intense musical moment.

Some Thoughts for a Musician’s Soul

Hi All

Performing quite intensively these last six months. Very busy indeed with piano accompaniement at Music Exams for students. This can be so enriching at times when you explore new music but at other times, this may be less interesting.  Some  music students don’t even know why they play an instrument. Some would prefer  their game console than their instruments. I have the impression that we live in a kind of dark ages for the Arts and particularly Music .

I recently went  to a concert by two popular French singers. The audience was packed and crowded.  I had always thought that with the   popularity of HD and UHD devices, people would be more demanding regarding sound quality….So bad for me. Only a few of us understood that the sound engineer was  inefficient.

The critics agreed unanimously that the sound was perfect. Is  it  because the sound was made by a French sound engineer coming from France that the sound is good. Come on people… Who are you fooling?

The society has changed. Ok about that. But what happens when it comes to sit and listen for enjoyment  of a concerto or any work for more than 3 minutes? Did you know tha a recent study showed that 3 minutes is too much for someone to listen to a song ? Apparently, some  even need images  through video clips to listen with enjoyment

Now what about the real musician…..someone who has been trained for years to develop his ear . Is this person out of place in this world?

This reminds me of an interview by British pianist Peter Donohoe :

“… Unless you absolutely have to be a musician because it’s the only thing you can do and you can’t stop yourself. But if there’s any choice – go and be a doctor or a lawyer because being a musician is a nightmare. The way things are at the moment with the world’s educational policies as they are – more or less everywhere apart from China – the interest in listening isn’t there….”

Two nice musical moments worth recalling with

Performing wth Trumpet Philippe THOMAS for the celebration of 125 years of Currimjee

my long time musical friend Philippe Thomas.

And the other enriching experience was to compose  and perform live with dancers an original work of 9 minutes for the launch off Ravanela Attitude Hotel, Balaclava. This was in November 2015 with the young generation of  worthwhile musicians . Nel Buctowar on Sax, Yorshini Thondoo-violin, Kerseley Pythambar-double bass,  Samuel Dubois and Kurwin Castel-Percussions.  This was a big show with Stellio Grenouille and his dancers. This was prepared in  less than a week. My  best thoughts to this young team .Thank you people for your efficiency. You are the best.
